New Fleur-de-Lis Painting in UT KKG House

As part of the redesign of the first floor of the Kappa Kappa Gamma house at the University of Texas, my fleur-de-lis painting now hangs in the entryway. The fleur-de-lis are from my garden and were painted along with peonies and black-eyed Susans as the summer advanced. The painting was selected along with other art as part of the refurbishment.
Other news from end of summer: I was chosen as a new board member of the Martha's Vineyard Art Association. Now we'll have to go up more often! As the main organization for Island artists, it has a significant mandate to encourage and strengthen this community through the organization and its Old Sculpin Gallery.

I'll join fellow artist Marston Clough in a gallery talk about our work, and the association has invited all interested to bring in their art for a critique. The short program begins at 6 p.m.

My two week show closed Sunday but my work is still on display in the members' gallery for the rest of the season, through October.

Jose Ascension de Gasca Wins at TX Pastel Society in San Antonio

The Jose portrait won another accolade, this time an honorable mention in the portrait category with Texas Pastel Society, awarded at the artists' reception at the San Antonio Public Library last month. Jose won 2nd place in portraits at last year's Austin Pastel Society Spring Exhibition, as well as a merit award at APS' North Hills Exhibition last fall.

Portrait in the Works

Want to see a portait in the works? Here is a commission for my long-time friend Louise Ratz as a gift to daughter Leslie of son Holden. It's great to watch it develop; it is still underway!

Jose Ascension de Gasca Wins at TX Pastel Society in San Antonio

The portrait in the below entry won an honorable mention, a second place in the portrait category at the Texas Pastel Society in San Antonio. The beautiful San Antonio Public Library downtown, with its cascading Dale Chihuly glass work dominating the multi-storied atrium, was the scene for the annual juried exhibition. It was great to have family, friends and fellow artist there for the exhibit and awards ceremoney; many thanks to all!

Two Paintings Juried into Texas Pastel Society Show

Please join me at the artists reception from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 5 at the San Antonio Public Library. I had two works juried in, including this painting of a local artisan and stonemason, as well as a more recent work, "Gone Fishin'". The paintings for this exhibit have a Texas theme, so it will be fun to see what reminds artists of our state.
