This "Woman in White Turban" is one of eight pastel paintings in my show, opening Feb. 7 at the Old Bakery & Emporium in Austin across from the state capitol. Isn't she beautiful? I caught her in this beautiful outfit at the DFW Airport; her face has the look of the weary traveler so I imagine home is far away and she has a long way to go to get there! The other works feature faces and figures of both people and wildlife, completed over this past year. I love these guys -- no, girls! All are Angus from the Big Spring ranch of former Texas Tech roommate Helen Glass and husband Lynn. We caught the herd late one afternoon at feeding time and I was inspired. Hope to move to the goats and sheep we fed soon after we took care of these beautiful girls! The first one is titled, "No Bull," just to emphasize their feminity. Lucky enought to be one of 16 local artists juried into the November exhibition at this national landmark, located right across from the State Capitol. The painting, "Here's Looking at You, Kid," was recently juried into the Central Texas Pastel Society's annual competition. The artists' reception will be Friday, November 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1006 Congress in Austin. This is a new venue for me, run by Austin Parks & Recreation -- please come! The show runs through Dec. 6. Maybe it was my new studio in Martha's Vineyard, but the season was a terrific one in terms of reception and sales. I had a new studio open house and sold the sister painting to the one above. I had my first painting published as part of the launch of "The Chappy Ferry Book," first at the Old Sculpin and then Island-wide. Gallery sales were good over the summer and I had my two-week show over Labor Day for the first time, which also went well. My work will continue at the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown through mid-October. Thanks to family and friends for your support and interest! This was my first year to enter the Central Texas Pastel Society's Annual Exhibition, so was excited to receive the top award in the Animal/Wildlife Category. These Dahl sheep were photographed on a ranch in nearby Llano. The judge was acclaimed landscape artist Bob Rohm. The work will be hanging at the Cultural Activities Center in Temple, TX, through mid-October. The work is available through my web site: janislangleyfineart.com. My painting, "Chappy Ferry, Martha's Vineyard," has just been included in the newly published work, "The Chappy Ferry Book" by Vineyard writer Tom Dunlop and noted photographer Allison Shaw. The opening reception was held July 1 in the Old Sculpin Gallery and the painting is one of the works included in the exhibit focused on the ferry, located directly next to the gallery. I have just added Pay Pal capability on the site. </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11360663232163331535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8483516752958144137.post-54110573216825946302012-05-08T11:54:00.001-05:002012-05-08T11:54:08.353-05:00"Derby Day" Wins Still Life Honor<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last month, my "Derby Day" painting won 2nd place in Still Life at the Austin Pastel Society Juried Exhibition, and was on display for the month of April at the Corridor of Art here in Austin. Last weekend, the painting sold at the silent auction for Kappa Derby Day -- I painted the work just for this event. The new owners are friends since college -- Ellen and Mark Morrison. The beautiful San Antonio Public Library downtown, with its cascading Dale Chihuly glass work dominating the multi-storied atrium, was the scene for the annual juried exhibition. It was great to have family, friends and fellow artist there for the exhibit and awards ceremoney; many thanks to all!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11360663232163331535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8483516752958144137.post-79023188974907916932011-04-18T20:50:00.004-05:002011-04-18T21:01:11.208-05:00Two Paintings Juried into Texas Pastel Society Show<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7xA2pZ272rtM2zU1hHrEnUip65IsrQ2LmAO0GUCd3sM-qTl5-168wqh0eYAi_QdmCxjs5Xr2sv5tFLATnUmwoxjniE-8f29oOfvcudWasTVNGIPJsZnCqUA_9NMkLAzXTINOlr6SGumb/s1600/gonefishin%2527"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 143px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597108611788084754" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN7xA2pZ272rtM2zU1hHrEnUip65IsrQ2LmAO0GUCd3sM-qTl5-168wqh0eYAi_QdmCxjs5Xr2sv5tFLATnUmwoxjniE-8f29oOfvcudWasTVNGIPJsZnCqUA_9NMkLAzXTINOlr6SGumb/s200/gonefishin%2527" /></a> <br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinlysLF06eOS4CJY4WvJBC59ihlbQSFdNYuS5HL0sXEhcc0yCGuLrt3x5tfK4sO6MCrHG8O9BYZo0vlwSf_4r__IbAPglhRbLGndTv4DVd8jZdMzUe0Hhjjwa3Gxlitn-QrEWl8GEd6LiM/s1600/joseascensiondegasca7.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 133px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597106495103977922" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinlysLF06eOS4CJY4WvJBC59ihlbQSFdNYuS5HL0sXEhcc0yCGuLrt3x5tfK4sO6MCrHG8O9BYZo0vlwSf_4r__IbAPglhRbLGndTv4DVd8jZdMzUe0Hhjjwa3Gxlitn-QrEWl8GEd6LiM/s200/joseascensiondegasca7.JPG" /></a> <br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Please join me at the artists reception from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 5 at the San Antonio Public Library. I had two works juried in, including this painting of a local artisan and stonemason, as well as a more recent work, "Gone Fishin'". The paintings for this exhibit have a Texas theme, so it will be fun to see what reminds artists of our state. </div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11360663232163331535noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8483516752958144137.post-6266474463333635552011-01-29T17:00:00.004-06:002011-02-21T20:42:53.301-06:00Martha's Vineyard Landscape Juried into Austin Pastel Society Annual Exhibit<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcFsQudziqDdJuMMRlazrJRTbCgDHfyMw36ysIUXDWf6-8k8BUS-230J2KBCExmLDdkz8NAmXMwhIMVOonMim8CDCy-_Kg-yoWMYLI56N2VjumiBAa-di05cVL5ScYwNbOJ5H2IY7-apI9/s1600/IMG_0950.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567746760369522402" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcFsQudziqDdJuMMRlazrJRTbCgDHfyMw36ysIUXDWf6-8k8BUS-230J2KBCExmLDdkz8NAmXMwhIMVOonMim8CDCy-_Kg-yoWMYLI56N2VjumiBAa-di05cVL5ScYwNbOJ5H2IY7-apI9/s200/IMG_0950.JPG" /></a><br /><div>I painted "Fall Treasures, Martha's Vineyard" on site and in my studio in late fall.
